Fire trucks have left and the repair and recovery process begins.
We’re truly sorry you’ve experienced the trauma of a fire and we want to help. We know firsthand that recovering from a fire can be overwhelming, not to mention physically and mentally exhausting. When fire strikes, lives are turned upside down and it’s daunting to determine where to begin and who to contact for help. J.R. Johnson, LLC has outlined the following steps involved in the recovery process so you’ll know what to expect.
First, be safe
Do not enter the fire damaged property without an approval from the fire department. The fire marshal will let you know when it is safe to enter the property. Call your insurance provider to report the damage to your property. Your insurance provider will furnish you with important information and steps to ensure that you are financially secure during the restoration process.
It is advisable that you have professionals take care of the restoration process. There are unapparent dangers to a fire damaged property. These burned structures and furnishings may have water and smoke damage as well as the potential for mold and microbial growth.
Board up service
Boarding up a fire damaged property is necessary before cleaning and restoration. Fire damage can diminish the building structure, weaken walls and break windows, leaving the property unsafe and open for vandalism. J.R. Johnson, LLC can help manage this by boarding up your property, providing temporary fencing and create a stabilized structure safe enough for recovery of personal effects.
Structural damage is not always easily apparent. At J.R. Johnson, LLC we may use our state of the art equipment such as moisture meters, borescopes (optical device to see behind walls) and infrared cameras to help us determine the true extent of damage.
If you are allowed to enter your property, take precautions for your health and safety. Wear a mask to avoid respiratory irritation. Do not turn on any electricity until it has been inspected and declared safe. If you can, use an outside power source.
Clean up and content recovery
Items damaged by water, soot, fire and smoke must be segregated immediately to determine what is salvageable and what must be properly disposed. Our cleanup team will run a full site cleanup to remove all debris and contaminated material from the property. What can be salvaged will be packed and sent to our contents recovery facility, where our technicians use the most advanced and innovative tools and equipment in the industry.
